It would be interesting to know how concentrated the risks have become.
If certain players have accumulated a large number of risks which all go
one way, then this scenario might play out.  On the other hand, if
people are tending to hold a more balanced "basket" of risks, then it
might not.  After all, insurance has been with us for a long time, and
usually they manage to diversify enough that they can meet claims, even
when a disaster results in a lot coming in at once.
