than the e-gold litigation. The DOJ pursuit of e-gold is just a sideshow
compared with what else is going on. Not to demean its importance, of
course, because it takes a lot of sideshows a circus to make. But there are
other events taking place in the main rings, and one of these is Executive
Order #13303, dated 17 July 2007, in which Bush has given himself authority
to seize and freeze and damn bank account he sees fit. All he has to do is
have the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of
State and the Secretary of Defense declare that your bank account is
"undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform
in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people..." and
your money is gone.

Of course your Congressweasels are just sitting idly by. If you live in the
USA this would be an excellent time to give yours a jingle and promote some
ass-getting-off-of. The Capitol switchboard is (202) 224-3121. If you
don't know the names of your Senators and Representative you can just give
the operator your zip code and he/she will look it up and connect you.

"Well, that's just targeting terrorist money," you say. You think? Maybe,
may be. But that's not what it says. It says it's targeting whatever it
damn well pleases. Those damned Democrats, for example, keep introducing
bills to do stuff like withdraw the troops. Boy, talk about undermining
efforts to promote economic reconstruction! Withdrawing doesn't get much
worse than that! Maybe in the middle of the election next year it will be
time to seize all the assets of the Democratic National Committee so no more
of those "traitors" can get elected. And then, to make sure nobody raises a
stink to the media, it'll be time to convene a little cabal as defined in
the detainee, torture, tribunal law (S. 3930) the Senate stupidly passed
last year and define all the leaders in the Democratic Party as "terrorist
supporters", thereby making it legal to round them up in the middle of the
night and cart them off secretly, never to be heard from again.

It's another example of incrementalism being practiced by the Bush
Administration and its lackeys. Moving from the world's most successful
Constitutional Republic to a brutal dictatorship requires some finesse. If
you do it quickly people will get upset and spoil things. So you need to do
it slowly, quietly, and once you've got things firmly in place you can then
lock everything down for good.

Just to make us safer from the terrorists, you understand.

That number again is (202) 224-3121. Call now. Operators are standing by.
