It hasn't always been the case, in the US, that assets were frozen
before a trial. I know that it has been the case recently, within the
past 40 years, say. But the big difference here, is that the entire 1mdc
currency was shut down, by removing the underlying asset, because that
asset is in the US. This is like shutting down the Federal Reserve to
investigate a single act of fraud by someone who has federal reserve
notes. This is not usual, and probably wouldn't have been done in this
fashion, just a few years ago. This is a very disturbing trend, to go
after the assets of the owner of an institution, for something of which
one of his clients is accused.
