Ah, that makes more sense now.  I hadn't logged onto Pecunix for ages,
so I went to see what the login screen was like.  I was surprised to see
that the PIK thing wasn't there, but obviously it is meant to come later
in the process.

Is that a challenge? :-) One option would be a real time attack, using a
trojan.  Alternatively, the phishing site could ask people to enter
their whole PIK, because it's needed now the flibbertigibbet has been
upgraded, or for preventing terrorism, or something like that.
